Why is it that all of these BLs keep taking a left turn? It either starts with a crazy, obsessed ML, or 20+ chapters in they suddenly start acting insane. What’s with this recurring theme of locking up your “partner” and treating them worse than a prisoner?
I mean, if it were one or two BLs, I wouldn’t mind it. But it feels like damn near every BL eventually goes down this route.
And realistically, there’s no coming back from some of this shit in a relationship. Like some of you have said, it also cheapens the character. All this running away, suffering, being held captive, abused, etc.—for what? Especially when we already know that, like most BLs, they’ll probably end up together anyway.
My biggest issue is that the redemption arcs are NEVER as extreme as what the MC had to experience. The ML will put the MC through absolute hell for 30 chapters, and then somehow a fraction of that effort is supposed to redeem him.
At this point, I genuinely have no idea what the author is going to do with the main lead’s character in terms of development—or if there will even be any meaningful development at all. I’m low-key depressed thinking about how this is going to end.
I just hope authors start putting more effort into actually developing their characters instead of constantly relying on the same extreme toxic behavior to move the plot forward
