In no way was it alright for Yihyun to go about keeping Sunwoo by his side/protecting him through confinement. No one should wish to be kidnapped (as I've seen some commentary say). Clearly missing the psychological point of the story.
Yeah there are topics in it that should've recieved more emphasis but at the very least it wasn't passed off as normal. The situation with Yihyun seeking comfort in being caged/using padlocks wasn't passed off as okay which is what made it a beautiful story to me. It may be too much for some readers but I think it reflects well on his characters trauma. Throughout the whole story his sole focus is set back to those days. The most impactful was the day he was separated from Sunwoo. When it comes to victims, as unfortunate as it is, they seek comfort in their trauma, no? The cage was the most impactful to Yihyun. What made it beautiful is that Sunwoo, in a sense, was finally able to get Yihyun out of it with his own hands at the end. The two of them had a lot to work through and still do for sure so it could've been a longer story but that's fine (the author stopped where they believed was enough).
Confinement stories are complicated and definitely not easy to write without veering toward illogical exuses over the topic of (if that makes sense). There can be a lot to disagree on or judge. To be honest I can't say I have a solid grasp on the right and wrongs of this story. I thought it was well written though but maybe today I just happened to be overly emotional, haha.
I think it's worth reading and figuring out for yourself!
