This is a story about human nature. The lengths we go to survive. I am glad there are no women in the story becuase when women arent the bottom line for being the obvious vulnerable targets men will victimize eachother. It was never the difference in gender but the underlying issue of people climbing on top of eachother to establish dominance and power.

People gravitate together for a sense of safety and community because one thing that humans are good at are coming together. however, people naturally follow whoever takes control whether they are a good leader or not. people rather follow along to keep themselves safe. So we turn a blond eye to clear injustice out of fear that the same will happen to us. I think that is the reason most of you are upset with the story. You feel like the mc isnt trying hard enough to avoid these situations and a part of us blames the writing but I think the writer is trying to tell a gruesome story about the reality of trying to survive when all society goes to shit.

Our MC is a kind person. He feels regret and shame for those he couldn't personally save. He tries to protect those he sees as friends and more often than not he will use his body to shield others. He wants to survive and keeps ending up in the hands of crazy people. Fighting leads to pain he might not bounce back from. He has learned to not fight until he is sure he can win and get away. He sort of plays dead and docile until he can find an opportunity to get one over.

I also think he developed Stockholm with the ML and was leaning towards the monster he knew. But right now he is on his own again and sometimes you got to play by the rules or at least pretend for a bit before you can make a move.
