then again, i do understand the frustration of seeing four years of his youth seemingly go to waste while he was depressed and listless. but isn’t that part of his journey, learning to overcome himself and rebuild his life after realizing just how much of himself he had dedicated to heejae and music? he had to walk away from everything he thought he loved and built his life around, and i feel like four years is hardly anything in the grand scheme of things, especially when he had no one to truly rely on emotionally. healing from that kind of dependency takes time, and i think expecting him to just move on immediately and make up for those lost years misses the point of what he’s going through.

Moreover sleeping with other people meaninglessly will never fill the empty void inside him. in fact, it might only lead to self harm since we know how genuine his love is for heejae so doing it with other people would undeniably hurt- or he might end up meeting trashy people that hurts him which he accepts (cus he's a masochist and ends up using sex as an escape/distraction from painful memories) and it will become a self-destructive habit.
i agree with you to some extent, but i don’t think garam was ever inherently a masochist. i think he was conditioned into liking it rough because that was the kind of intimacy heejae had accustomed him to, and he came to associate it with the only kind of love heejae was capable of giving him. because if you think about that one chapter where heejae treated him gently, garam was visibly uncomfortable with it at first, but he undeniably ended up enjoying it more than when heejae was rough with him.
I didn't mean to say that he was inherently masochistic, I interpreted it as heejae's rough treatment might have awoken something in him (aka his masochistic tendencies) that he didn't realize before. So I don't think its far fetched to say that his masochistic tendencies might reoccur when he has another sexual encounter. also a lot of the times ive read, characters would use physical pain as a way to mask their emotional pain (which i think is self destructive)
Theres no misinterpretation of character going on here lmao most people are just saying random thoughtless jokey stuff youre the one who make it more complicated that it supposed to be and hes already at rock bottom, an alcoholic with black lung, doing things that wont fill the void inside him too just like you said so i promise you, getting fucked in the ass during one night stands isnt going to be a big deal or a mischaracterization
personally, i find it frustrating when people say garam needed to hoe around during his breakup because i feel like that’s such a misinterpretation of his character. from the very beginning, garam has never struck me as the type of person to sleep around. yes, he has sexual desires, but both with youngjo and heejae, he’s always been a one love at a time type of person. i don’t think being single automatically means he needs to have meaningless sex with other people, especially when that’s never really been the way he approaches love and intimacy. if anything, i would’ve preferred to see him continue playing the piano, further develop his own sound, and meet more people who genuinely treasured him, just like maria, walter, eva, etc. i wanted to see him build a life and find fulfillment outside of heejae, but at the same time, i think his current outcome makes sense considering how emotionally and physically dependent he was on him. leaving heejae was never going to undo that dependency overnight, and i think that’s an important part of garam’s character and his journey.
