It's okay if you're not the target audience, but the comments are giving main character syndrome

The hate books get for having too much plot or complex main characters feels like booktok brain. It hints with the prologue that this is not a quicky, "turn your brain off" read, or lovey dovey series. So this is not for you if you want instant gratification, or for the main character to be a "good guy"

like i thought ppl hated mcs who were weak, innocent, and naive? the minute we get an mc that is actually different, suddenly people can’t handle it anymore. i actually enjoy that he’s a horrible person. i don’t always want to read about a hero

Exactlyyyy. The world is not black and white, villains are often more interesting in literature because they have flushed out depth, good/bad, and they aren't held back by audience's fickle or self righteous expectations. But the minute they are an actual MC, suddenly it's too much. This is not even a "self-insert" book
