We know that he's unable to fully share his true feelings because it makes him feel vulnerable. Tae-young is a complex character and it's clearly going to lead up to a big blow out later for the two of them, which makes for an interesting story. This is in character for him. This isn't the first morally dubious thing he's done, because he's clearly deeply flawed and that comes from a place of hurt given his family situation. Did you think he was going to immediately be honest? Come on.
Nuance, guys. If you're looking for a story with all green flags and rainbows, you do you, but man, a lot of you should've known at this point before getting up in arms. I feel like at the first sign of a ML making a bad choice, everyone becomes the purity police. It might have something to do with toxic ML fatigue, but even then, there are plenty of wholesome BL out there. Go read that.
