This is so peak actually. And I never even stopped to consider just how exactly Jinwoo's amnesia would tie into it. I love these theories.
I did a little research!! but I REALLY wanted to share all of these viewpoints in summary because literally ANY of them could be possible, and they’re all equally fascinating!!
I don’t entirely agree with how the Thanatos theory is in place in that summary, BUT.. never know.
• Theory 1: Jinwoo as Thanatos (The God of Death)
In the original myth, Sisyphus traps Death to break the cycle of mortality. In the story, Jinwoo has memory loss and mentions that people around him mysteriously get sick. If Jinwoo is an amnesiac God of Death, Guwon is keeping him close to maintain his own immortality—essentially keeping Death "chained."
• Theory 2: Jinwoo as Merope (Sisyphus's Complicit Wife)
Merope was the only person Sisyphus trusted with his grand plan to trick the gods and escape the Underworld. In this role, Jinwoo is the ultimate anchor to Guwon's past. He is the only one Guwon is vulnerable with, making them codependent partners in a shared, rule-breaking existence.
• Theory 3: Jinwoo as The Boulder (The Eternal Burden)
Instead of a person, Jinwoo represents the physical weight of Sisyphus's punishment. Guwon is completely obsessed with carrying, protecting, and controlling Jinwoo. Every time Jinwoo tries to run away or hide secrets, it acts like the boulder rolling back down the hill, forcing Guwon to chase him forever.
• Theory 4: Jinwoo as Sisyphus Himself (The Role Reversal)
This theory flips the dynamic. Jinwoo is the actual Sisyphus because he is plagued by endless nightmares, running from a heavy past, and trying to escape his reality. In this scenario, Guwon isn't Sisyphus—he is the "Hound" sent by the gods to track Jinwoo down and drag him back to his eternal cycle.
