There was no rape in the play, and I'll explain why. Pay close attention because it's very simple.

Regarding the agreement: Uncle Bill almost killed Matthias's grandmother. Layla takes the initiative and goes to find the duke to persuade him to drop the charges.
Matthias asks why, or in exchange for what? And so the negotiation begins.

We agree on that, right? Now let's see how they negotiated.

Layla explained her dilemma, telling the duke to forgive her uncle even though he has no money or anything to offer him. She cries.

Matthias comforts her and tells her that, unfortunately, Bill's crime is too serious to forgive just because Layla is crying. And he gives her an alternative. He says in a soft voice that they have things to exchange.

that's poor judgment. there was coercion and power imbalance in the negotiation, it wasnt even a negotiation since matthias made sure to get what he wants. he even said that when they locked eyes he knew how to have her you think they're on equal footing when layla agreed? girly CLEARLY does not want it were you even reading. matthias has all the power while layla have nothing to bargain. and regardless of matthias' reasoning for not giving in to her request to spare her uncle, using sex as a deal (and not just once omfg) is sexual abuse. it's rape, she was coerced. the most ideal choice is the one she doesn't want and the only one matthias is offering when he could just as easily given her another way out.

if he was ugly i think you'd call him a rapist

you should be careful with your judgment. i fear you're one of the people who blames the victim in rape cases. i wonder what's ur take on the cornell rape case
