Atsuka gives smn rice ball after biting, and the hands are small and glow. Hands could potentially change cause Kai-san is the one watching the memory. Cause like we saw Kai-san reaching his hand inside Atsuka and that's like why he can see the memory (taking out it, you may say). Though it is weird that we don't see it from perspective of Atsuka then. Or may be then he was 'putting' in the memories of his own? There're lots of different possibilities, so I'll just say one that I don't see anyone bringing up. Atsuka might have died let's say of disease (like he has been sickly and it was bad sudden episode), and if it was indeed Kai-san, may be he was taking form of a child self then (therefore smaller hands at first) and actually did smth to 'resurrect' him. And his fear is for Atsuka to remember and may be start seeing other yokais, cause may be him not remembering is one of the reason he couldn't see them, but his dormant memory still made him more interested in horror and supernatural. May be Kai-san thought it's better to stay away until Atsuka is fully grown up and able to take it Also there was another dream/memory before, where I believe Atsuka called older man grandpa, anyway, that's to say them wearing traditional Japanese clothes doesn't mean that it's different era, if Atsuka grew up and spend a lot of times with his grandpa in some sort of countryside it's likely that he just often wore yukata, some still do. Especially if his grandfather has anything to do with like temples or spirits, which would make even more sense why Atsuka attracts otherworldly beings Another thing I thought that it could have been another yokai that did smth to Atsuka, may be child looking one. There's gap between Atsuka hand over rice ball to smn and then panels with broken dishes and the rest. May be Kai-san was responsible or smth for that yokai, so did smth to Atsuka to fix it. We probably all can assume by this point that Kai-san was watching Atsuka for very long time, longer than he admitted so far. But it's nice to have plot that keeps you wondering I'd be happy if the story would just stay sorta everyday and cutesy, but that's also fun
