Honestly, this manhwa could have gone so well if, after rescuing Yujin, Aaron had simply tended to his wounds. Even if he wanted to act like an asshole or remain angry because Yujin ran away from him, he could have at least taken care of his injuries and talked things out with him. I'm pretty sure a lot of readers wouldn't have minded that. But no, the author had to take things in this direction, and now it's gotten to the point where a lot of us might end up dropping this manhwa.
And the thing that pisses me off the most is that Yujin had literally just escaped being raped by a gang of men, and he was beaten up in the process. He had barely escaped such a traumatic experience, and Aaron, the very man who rescued him, was the one person I thought would at least show him some consideration, even if he was still angry with him. I thought he would tend to Yujin's wounds, check on his physical and emotional state, and perhaps confront him about running away when he was in a better condition.
BUT NO! Instead, Aaron goes ahead and rapes him himself. LIKE, ARE YOU ACTUALLY KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW?
Yujin had just escaped being raped, only to be raped by the very person who saved him. Do you understand how messed up that is? The poor guy had already been beaten and was dealing with the aftermath of what those men almost did to him, and instead of giving him a moment to recover, Aaron decided to make things even worse. What exactly was the author thinking? How does that make sense?
Even if Aaron was angry, hurt, or felt betrayed because Yujin ran away from him, there were so many other ways to explore those emotions. He could have been cold towards him, argued with him, confronted him, or refused to forgive him immediately. There was so much potential for angst, conflict, and character development without resorting to sexual violence.
And honestly, this is what frustrates me about some BL authors. Why are rape scenes so frequently used as a shortcut for drama? Why do some of you seem to think that forcing two characters into a sexual situation automatically makes their relationship more intense or interesting? There's a difference between writing a dark, morally complicated character and using rape as a plot device in a romance.
At this point, I'm genuinely starting to wonder whether some of these authors have a fetish for rape, because WHY DOES IT KEEP HAPPENING? You can write toxic relationships, possessiveness, jealousy, anger, betrayal, and complicated romance without constantly resorting to sexual assault.
PLEASE, SOMEBODY GIVE ME THIS AUTHOR'S INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT BECAUSE I NEED TO DRILL SOME SENSE INTO THEM! I just want to ask them WHY. WHY WOULD YOU WRITE IT LIKE THIS WHEN THERE WAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR A BETTER STORY?
I'm genuinely so disappointed because this could have been handled so differently. I'm here for BL, angst, complicated relationships, and morally grey characters, but can we PLEASE stop using rape as a substitute for actual storytelling?
