My girlfriend has a sister that is in year 7 and the poor girl is struggling a lot. So she started off pretty good, she had a pretty decent group she hangs out with in break times and even has her best friend from primary school in her class. So she started off pretty good, but throughout the year she's been having issues with the group we thought was great. 2 of the people in the group had started to just turn around one day and decided that instead of being good friends, they'd gossip about her to other people and spread rumours. Why they did it was because my girlfriend's sister was talking to a boy 1 of her friends liked. Mind you she's not very interested in boys or girls as far as I know, she's never talked about it and gotten shy about things like this- I think she just prefers her art more. But because of the 2 friends spreading gossip around her, she started getting bullied at school. This was around the beginning of the year, and she actually took a whole week off because of it. Her mother felt helpless at first, but she marched down to that school and she was pissed. Of course my girlfriend went with her because she's a deaf woman and someone needed to translate what she had to say, and also because my girlfriend wanted to support her younger sister. The issue was resolved and the people who bullied her + those 2 girls were suspended for 2 weeks. Of course she stopped being friends with them.
But guess what? More drama for the poor girl. So school is back from holidays, we're 2 days in. Because her mum and dad aren't home my girlfriend picked her up so she can hang out at our place because mum doesn't want her home alone which is great, she's only 13 after all. But as soon as she's in the car she's burst out crying. So her best friend has a boyfriend now, and it's only day 1 of them 'dating' and she's already started ditching her. Of course she's upset, they've been friends since primary year 1. I understand that a lot of these children are starting to go into puberty, so a lot of them think about having boyfriends or girlfriends because they want to explore- there's no harm in that, but I imagine it's stressful losing friends because they want relationships. And for her all of her friendships are ending because of boyfriends or crushes and it's just not fair on her. Yes we send children to school to learn, but social life is just as important and I wouldn't want her going through school without someone to have as a good friend. Now because of this issue with her one friend, she doesn't even wanna go back to school. I just know her mothers gonna be pissed over this.
