Even Rose, for whom I have the tiniest modicum of sympathy, is a complete moron who keeps ascribing normal human reactions to malice. The smallest modicum of self reflection (and not leaping immediately to child murder) would go a huge way to making her sympathetic as her husband is humiliating her endlessly. She wouldn't be in the position to even think of murdering a child if her husband just had sex with her a few times!
