First of all, I appreciate how greatly Inami-san’s face expresses a constipated look all the time. It really speaks on his inner psyche. (In the same way I love how Aoi’s eyes were always bright- pure and genuine). Second, this is why I love when a foil is done well. This was written so nicely. I just read over the second half of Vol.2 again, and really enjoyed the way the author wrote both Aoi’s obvious and “unconventional” intelligence as well as his selfless inner monologue alone in the manga cafe. As we the readers and Inami got to know more of Aoi, and just how expansive his introspection is, we come to conclude his preciousness and value near the narrative climax. And boom, the relationship, as unstable as the sand it was, snaps and collapses, leaving us to realize just how fragile it was. Again, about the foil, Inami’s judgment, selfishness, stubbornness and defensiveness were crucial weaknesses, that were more visible against Aoi’s broader mindset, bare openness and vulnerability. In this foil case, their strengths and weaknesses embrace in a lovely way. Ofc, they both grow in learning from each other.
