Extreme Disappointment

Spoilers/explanation below. TLDR: This is a complete waste of a story with really good potential. One of my most disappointing reads in a long ass time.

The first season is excellent, but it quickly becomes clear that the author had no idea where to bring the concepts. The plot meanders, the characters are poorly written and continually act in ways that are nonsensical given the supposed stakes of the situation, complex interpersonal issues are tied up with the power of friendship, and years of abuse is trivialized. They try to bring in abuse and trafficking of omegas but it falls flat with the S1 set up that the ONLY thing omegas are excluded from is the throne. Beyond that, the author doesn't have the bandwidth to give trafficking the gravity that it deserves. Rishar and Etienne won't stop boning down in extremely public places even though it could mean both of their deaths, and Rishar gets pissy every time Etienne pushes him away EVEN THOUGH THEIR RELATIONSHIP BEING DISCOVERED COULD MEAN BOTH OF THEIR DEATHS???? The uncle and dad are brought in as potential barriers for Etienne until the author decides it's time to wrap it up and then they both immediately decide to be nice good guys and cause 0 problems for the heroes. The mom morphs from a woman consumed with resentment and hatred for her son to someone who actually just really cared about him but was fucked up and didn't know how to show it. The incest/control themes between Etienne and his mom are fully dropped even though they were one of the most horrific and engaging parts of the story, and the mom faces repercussions from Rishar and the emperor for abusing Etienne, but the many many people she's killed are apparently undeserving of justice in the author's eyes since they were just plot devices to make Etienne sad. Speaking of Etienne's lifelong abuse, don't worry y'all! He's over it! How? He decided to be.

The side characters are extremely poorly defined and have no purpose (besides Ben and Celodine). Red haired omega is only there to show omegas can be smart too, grandpa is there for a lame 3rd act sub-villain, brown haired guy is there to??? Teach Etienne swordplay for 3 panels? Be super creepy? Then be kind of nice for like a season and a half with no interrogation into his motives???

Also the magic system is dumb as hell. The mom can use dominating magic that we find out in the very last season will fade away if Etienne doesn't have an omega child? That was literally never established as a part of omega power in the first 100 fucking chapters. (A plot point that clearly only exists so that the grandpa can be brought in as a villain to make the final season longer). And Etienne can not only dominate people but he can explode mountains??? How the everloving fuck can he explode mountains? And can every omega use magic or just the super powerful mage who only exists to suppress Etienne's pheromones?

Finally, the Herace pruning ritual is literally the only interesting thing that the final season introduces and it gets like 3 panels. Eff off.
