I’m so scared, why are the thoughts in past tense.

Don't be scared babes.... the author had confirmed that they will have a happy ending.... pretty sure they are narrating their story to someone (maybe their adoptive kid?)

I'm not even rooting for a tragic ending or anything but it seems like authors these days are so scared of their audience that they feel the need to constantly give out reassurance, even at the cost of spoiling the story lol.
