honestly im not gonna say it was necessary but at the same time im not gonna say it doesnt make sense. his dad knew about their relationship and i assume he knows that they were QUITE intimate, seeing as dante was being followed by a guy who listened in on EVERYTHING (weirdo). it’s a HUGE sign of power tripping from dante’s father and was used as an emotional tactic to hurt gino and possibly get him to just give up. oh the mafia doesnt do that but like this guy wants revenge cause his lover was killed so like whats more fucked up than getting a “past fake” lover to rape you in front of the enemy amd your men. thats my two cents on it. imo they should have just implied that the rape happened and put the character’s thoughts on what they went through after.
