That’s the whole reason why I made this comment. I already read the novel up until I was waiting for the release of Vol. 6. I think it also coincided with the manhwa’s last season so I never really got to read it back, but up until ch143, I decided to pick it up again, and read it to the very end, and was very disappointed.

We all know from the start that this story is a bitch to read. Personally, my only saving grace for this was about the gilsangcheon, which I LOVED SO MUCH that I could bear the fact that the author decided that Taeui gets raped every so often. But these chapters have really done it for me, I mean, can’t you believe that this is a few chapters away from permanently ending? (I read the novel, don’t ask me where I got it, downloaded it a long time ago.)
Like aside from the progress we had from the plot, there is literally LITTLE TO NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT aside from Xinlu I think. Sure, Taeui and Ilay developed romantic feelings for each other, but that’s literally only it—their actions literally progressed by like 5% because the author is STUCK with doing the whole cat and mouse chasing of their relationship.
AND GET THIS, UNTIL THE VERY END, TAEUI DOESN’T EVEN HAVE THE FUCKING GUTS TO SAY WHAT HE CLEARLY NEEDS TO SAY
Like yes, this can be argued that he’s being mentally and emotionally manipulated to hold back information that’s needed, especially in front of Ilay, because we all know that deep inside, Taeui DOES fear Ilay. But his fear translates to anger (from what I understand), and so by most means, he has this fight reaction for dangerous situations. You can technically argue too that he’s fawning (like the freeze) when confronting Ilay in certain situations—but I feel that those fawning reactions were just put there by the author to justify the rape Taeui will experience. THIS MAN IS SO MISCHARACTERIZED TILL THE END AND I MIGHT DIE ON THAT HILL.
Like man, I’m not even expecting or shipping them both, I just wanted Taeui to find his twin. This whole story is literally an excuse for romanticizing rape; they failed to make this an enemies to lovers trope.
WITH THAT SAID, I might need to reread this because the marinating made me confused about the plot, so this was just my initial thoughts on this story.
