honestly so much context and time is stripped from the manwha, you don’t get a good grasp on the development. It’d be better to read the novel, there’s so much missing from the manwha is genuinely difficult for me to grasp how the two of them rely on the same story but the manwha gets away with losing half of its plot value….

It's not too early, but in the novel, Hernan believes Calix hates him, and that isn't the full picture. Calix does feel resentment, since he feels abandoned, but he is also already protective of Hernan before the flowers: he is furious when he finds him crying, and he spends the day checking on him while he is sick and asks why Hernan never told him about his past.

The flowers themselves are deniable, since Calix claims he gave them "to the vase", and the scene is told from Hernan's point of view, so Calix's motive is never stated.

What the novel suggests is that Calix hasn't yet realized his own affection. It goes back to his childhood, but he never understood it, and his small acts of kindness slip out almost unnoticed. So the resentment is real, but it coexists with an attachment he doesn't yet understand.

As tequila monger mentioned, it's better to read the novel.
