I get what you mean. I think it all comes down to how long the story is going to be. To me this still feels like the setup, the calm before the storm and to show us what is at stake essentially.
I think the pacing it perfect so far. They're definitely setting up this warm intimate dynamic that they're definitely going to fill with a lot of angst later on.
For my taste, it's a little too heavy on style, and a little too light on substance. It's like someone came up with a good idea, but can't figure out where to take it. 16 chapters in, we are still at: <Sentinel discovers guide. They are drawn to each other.>. We knew that at chapter 1. With some pretty pillow talk in between.
