Is anyone else confused?

I’m actually really confused. Why did Taesung disappear in the first place? Like in chapter 180 he literally drops his phone and they just show the empty rooftop so it looks like he tried to ya know but obviously he didn’t. So did he literally just disappear off the grid for a year and do nothing?? Like am I the only one confused with why he did that bc it didn’t really accomplish anything. Ik Taesung says in the last panel of that chapter that he (his grandfather I assume) needs to understand the pain he inflicted but he’s in jail so like how is disappearing going to accomplish anything? The author also didn’t show at all how that affected the grandfather and only showed how Haebom was affected while Taesung was gone. Like at that point there was no reason for Taesung to do or say any of that if you’re not going to show the aftermath of the grandfather being miserable or how Taesung’s disappearance affected him. All we saw was his grandfather in jail afterwards with “no one by his side” but being in jail doesn’t look like it really affected him and he obviously doesn’t regret any of it after trying to tell Eunsun that Taesung could still live a normal life if she worked with him. It just felt like the author wrote that for no reason other than to add dramatic effect for their reunion in the epilogue, so if anyone else has a better explanation please tell me cause I don’t see the point
