MAJOR SPOILER WARNING FOR ANYONE NEW WANTING TO READ first and foremost, i wont gas this up like this is the biggest ground breaking story ever written, but it IS really really well written! but to be fair this is an adaptation of the novel.. the art is amazing, and the characterization is amazing, each character really feels like their own charcter, the plot honestly was interesting in my opinion. althoughbi really wished they touched up on a lot of things that ended up becoming plot holes and loose ends with no conclusion... this wont be everyones cup of tea, particularly because of the political themes it presents (the whole story is literally political in itself so take that with what you will), this is not some pwp story (although.. season 3 n 4 kinda got crazy w all the banging tbh... but yum regardless). i dont read novels like i used to but this story genuinely is making me want to read the novel, since from what ive heard apparently there's a lotnof important details and moments the adaptation didnt have time or budget to add in.. which brings me to my conclusion why the last seasons seemed a bit lacking. and im sure the team that adapted this weighed out viewership rather than novel readers perspective and favored certain scenes because of that and in turn made it seem like it was super rushed when im sure the novels pace wasn't nearly this fast. for me personally, i enjoyed the pace, as im a busy guy and end up reading a couple of chapters here and there throughout the week, and the pacing seemed fine to me and i was genuinely enjoying it! there were moments where they were bouncing around alot which became hard to follow at times, but nothing that really ruined it for me tbh. some thing i thought abt whilebready; i really loved how strongly their relationship was portrayed- but smth that irritated me rishar was kind of a dunce in the fact he practically outted etienne several times and even though he meant well, it was something that peeved me a bit. i feel like they equally rely on each other despite etienne kinda of depends on rishar a bit too much and it sort of rips his independence that he's desperately trying to earn and get away from not only his mother but literally everybody... something else, despite etiennes dad being lowk a douche to him, i can understand it from his perspective which is lightly touched up on but i wish they delved deeper into is the fact etienne was born from rape and i sure as hell would also have difficult time accepting a baby the was forced when the rapist in question is someone i HAD to be around and literally married to. and i am honestly happy how the emperor (although it was because rishar pushed him) started to change his perspective and finally apologized. and honestly his reaction with etiennes reveal towards the end is also completely understandable- imagine not being in your kids life for that long and finally mending that relationship still not knowing much about said kid and all of a sudden there's this huge lie that comes out right before that kid is about to be in a position a law you didnt create is about to be broken? that not only reflects on etienne but the emperor! but after all of that, after hearing his son out, i personally think he made it right and still gave etienne a chance, and you can tell how proud of his son he is after that conflict. now onto the empress; i feel that her end is a bit lackluster- (BIG SPOILER INCOMING) although it's fitting, i wish it was a more grueling punishment due to the crazy ass shit she had done. but to be fair her having to receive everything she had done to etienne for the amount if time he had to live it is a very fitting punishment, you get what you give and i think thats quite deserved. and maybe after she is to spend that time if shes not dead by then, maybe she'll get the same treatment as those shes hurt along the way who knows
