i read it on novelib, you can pick up from around chapter 77, where the manhwa left off ; https://novelib.com/story/empathy-2/205300-c7-22/
i honestly don't have the energy to summarize everything there are spoilers scattered around the comments, but feel free to check out the novel yourself if you're curious

genuinely one of the worst things i've ever read? i'm not defending jiwook or downplaying what he did in the past. juyeon's anger is completely understandable, but having a reason to want revenge doesn't automatically justify everything he does in the name of it huh
juyeon spent 8 years planning his revenge, yet at some point it stops feeling like revenge and becomes an endless cycle of cruelty. and my issue isn't that he's a terrible person, it's that the story barely seems interested in examining what that ACTUALLY MEANS
honestly, this novel felt more like an excuse to explore as many extreme kinks and fetishes as possible than an actual story about revenge. the plot feels like it's there to justify the sexual violence rather than the other way around. there's nothing inherently wrong with writing extreme dark fiction, but when every new chapter just introduces another way to degrade jiwook, it starts feeling repetitive rather than meaningful
and the dog scene??? i'm sorry but that was genuinely my breaking point. i couldn't even finish reading it. fuck u author.
the ending was just as frustrating. juyeon shows no remorse, the abuse continues, and jiwook still loves him. i'm not asking for redemption or a happy ending, but what exactly are we supposed to take away from this? an unresolved cycle of abuse can be a deliberate tragic ending, but here it just feels like the story stops without ever doing anything meaningful with its themes
i don't think a story needs to teach a moral lesson to be good, but it should at least feel like there's some thought behind its choices. to me, this was just 154 chapters of escalating cruelty, with shock value constantly taking priority over characterization and storytelling. i finished it feeling disturbed, but not in a way that made me reflect on anything. just genuinely disappointed by how little substance there was beneath all that violence
