The "monster topic" reminded me a lot about The Summer Hikaru Died (and lots of Gothic Romances). All this "what makes you a monster and what human?" And "why humans are better?" Eve was neither a monster nor a human. He has is own moral and interpretive tools. Adam reacted with his own moral, shocked. No one taught Eve how to think and live as a human. They are going to try that later, as we saw. Beside, he was created by humans to protect them and be of use to them, I think he just knows that. So even the bond was not seen in a romantic way by Eve, he was not able to interpret in that way.
