He might snap and get violent, but what if the others start seeing it as a weakness instead of something to fear? He used to command respect by fear as emperor, but now he's so consumed by Sam that he barely seems to care about anything else. It's like Sam is the only thing he can react to anymore, and even then, he's losing control. And the more CG tries to showthat no one can disrespect what he has with Sam, the more he exposes Sam as his biggest weakness. He's basically showing everyone exactly how to hurt him, and that puts Sam in danger too. If they realize how much Sam affects CG, they could use him against CG or even target him to bring the emperor down.
