Sure moral policing can be irritating but idk bruh, I think it's fine to critique the media you're consuming. Especially when people are going into this manwha thinking Ian is a green flag, while also enjoying it because of that preconceived idea, and then boom surprise he raped him in his sleep. Like what. It's kinda jarring and it makes sense that people are either upset about it or want to talk about it.
I get it ultimately. But its starting to look more like virtue signaling and not real criticism. Like if we start being like this then we should have been mad at him since he sniffed his friggin balls without hisconsent, or when he stole his handerkief cuz thats thievery... Idk man I am all for calling out romantization of red flags behaviour but we reading some friggin YAOI not a personal devellopment book about healthy relationship. It feels like many dont know how to compartimentize their morals from basic fiction. Idk.. At the end of the day i get it but MAN ITS BORIIIIING
I do think there's validity in that, some people definitely do like to virtue signal for sure. But I also think there's a bigger issue of how much SA is prevalent in BL. Like of course SA should have its place in stories and people should right it, without it being brushed off or treated like a kink rather than what it is. More often than not it's a topic that's treated carelessly and more like a second thought. For example, oh btw I kept going in your sleep.
Anyway, back to what you were saying, if people were critiquing every little thing like him stealing his handkerchief etc, that in my mind is more nit picking and not really needed . I'd be tired of that shit too.
Yeah everyone has the right technically to critique media but I also think at a certain point, people also need to accept that this is not the community for them. There is mlm media out there that don’t have the same issues that a lot people critique about yaoi/webcomics for. But people aren’t morally policing those stories, they are policing yaoi which is fetishized porn content. In its essence, most of the time it is not a “morally correct” media in the first place so it doesn’t make sense for people to be so critical of it.
I feel like “critique” is for something that you can still enjoy but you recognize the ways in which it is not “perfect”. But a lot of people tend to instantly shut down and vehemently reject a story once they deem it to be incorrect. I think the big issue with moral policing is people don’t draw the line between reasonable critique and just constantly subjecting themselves to a media full of things they don’t enjoy.

The moral policing in the Yaoi community is getting old...really old.
I am bored.
