Adoption happens as an alternative everywhere, including the US and Canada before marriage equality, especially during the AIDS crisis when it was one of the only ways for partners to have any medical protections or legal standing! Maybe there will come a time when adoption is no longer needed and queer love is given the legal recognition it deserves everywhere
when i first learned that Asian queer people adopt each other as siblings, or parents to be legally family, I was shocked. It’s sad yet admirable. I hope everyone can receive the freedom and rights to be together in their lifetimes!!
