as an author you need to actually have some courage or be plain stupid to make the final moment of your work be this.
it's hard to stomach because, clearly, we all wanted ilay to have some character growth because we actually saw glimpses of that. now, he's back to square one, maybe even worse. the reason is simple, we all started to have some faith in him. the same as taeui, so this scene was really difficult to manage. i deeply dislike it.
but in a way it makes sense. this is just who ilay is. he is a monstruos being slowly becoming more humane. him acting like a monster is a default. in his eyes, taeui betrayed him and did exactly everything he warned him not to do. is it surprising ilay did this? no. he said he'll do even worse. instead of doing that he even gave taeui a way out because ilay simply can't exist without him anymore.
ilay stayed true to his character. you may think that he was softer the first time taeui ran away. which is completely true. my opinion is that was when realized just how important taeui has become for him. it was when he decided to make taeui his and start his brainwashing. now, after all his efforts, all the feelings that started finally getting a name, taeui ran away with the one he couldn't stand. when ilay was starting to believe taeui was his and he was taeui's, he is proved extremely wrong.
it's a sick dynamic. even though it makes sense, i need to read some nice scenes from DS to get over this and not end everything in a very bad note.
or maybe nothing makes sense and i am just exactly like taeui, schizophrenic for seeing more in this crazy man.
This is what bothers me, she CLEARLY wrote him well later on in the 2nd and last book to actually listen to Taeui (they still have arguments etc. but it's not to this extent where it's Ill rape you
