Please correct me if I am wrong, I might have misunderstood. And this is a genuine question because I don't know how it works. So, legally Ho is registered as Mr. Kwon's child?

same sex marriage is not legal in korea, so they cannot get the same privileges straight married couples do (an example would be if Ho was in the hospital, Mr Kwon would not have any say in his medical decisions or be let in for longer visits since he is not family). So a work around that real gay couples do in countries that do not have same sex marriage is to either register each other as legal family (father & son, mother & daughter, etc) or one person becomes the other person’s legal guardian. This way same sex couples can secure similar rights to straight married couples!

Yes, you can legally adopt an adult in a lot of countries. So Mr Kwon just legally adopted Ho, that way they can officially be family even if it's not as spouses. Fun fact, quite a few gay couples did this in countries where gay marriage is now legal before it was so, and it's still sometimes done in countries where it is still not legal (like Japan or Korea). It allows for the relationship to be official but it also offers some legal benefits in particular if outlive the other they can inherit from them, depending on the country and it's laws it might help if they want to buy a home together, etc...
