I thought this story is about the life of the last punished generation (mc) , since the general in chapter 11 was the second life as to my understanding (he said that the snake knew him , from an even prior life , they were talking about reincarnation an so on , and even his conclusion while hunting with his father and encountering ml in his animal form getting attacked)
and there were 9 skeletons in the secret room and we should exclude the first , so 8 + modern mc so he should be last (9 generations in total) ,
then the young new generation (the one at the end of chapter 12) shouldn't be punished right ???
But the again , they could have met waaay many more times then the one prior to the general and ml actually burried them instead of holding their remains , so mc technically shouln't get punished , but alas he committed the same crime and started a new cycle , just like @Mejustmem said
