Cuz y’know there’s his martyr sacrifices and there’s also his thought of what will peeps think of her if they did have a child and he left her and that he’s simply satisfied as long as Ilse gets her happiness. I mean that’s what makes him happy (until he found his soulmate UwU so new reason to be happy), can’t blame him.
Uuu also when he helped him on his heat, I love that he asked Lucius so he can prepare stuff that will damage/hurt him less cuz he knows Adain will hurt more if something bad bad happens to Jonak. There’s also “..don’t be absurd. You’d see to my needs if the roles were reversed..” my gosh I’m melting with these two~ not to mention in the early chapters they were calmly talking about politics while being all over each other haha oh I also love the fact where Jonak told Adain that its not up to the one who makes the apology decides whether he should be forgiven or not cuz that’s real talk face it. Also that forked tongue on the nipple pull kyaaaaa~
Then there’s Lucius. “I’m not into men… but when he’s that ample, my eyes can’t help but wander”… man, pervert (or more simply open-minded??) as you are but at least you know when to appreciate fufu… though he… as Anne’s friend was precious to look at too. What they had can possibly considered not rlly all-over-each-other romantic, but they had each other’s hearts (idk if you’d know what I mean. Akin to soulmates I guess) He even followed with taking care of Helen and made sure she grew up right.
I love Jonak and his tree bark btw XD its prolly something to pity as he stooped that low just to survive… but the tenacity to try get nourishment from simply anything is amazing in its own right.
As for Adain and Ilse, I forever love the concept of he dun like her due to what happened but is still thankful cuz due to her he met Jonak. Its kind of a duality of a situation where you kind of look of it from the good and the bad aspects.
Also, that priest that did the orphans bad should rot and burn someplace for eternity. Sad to say but real life history-wise these also existed. Which is disgusting.
Also, I love the part where the time skips was not explicitly stated but is shared from what you can observe. It be kinda confusing but bittersweet in its own way. You can see characters growing up and passing away, you can see stuff some characters left behind (like doggo’s prosthetic), you can see timelines moving, while our characters remain the same. Its lovely and its bittersweet, just like life. This was an amazing journey. Bless the characters, the author, and whoever else involved in the production of this series.
