Hayeol is a twisted psycho. Instead of forcing Hajun & Danwoo to breakup...he uses his father's harsh ultimatums (which demanded that Hajun return to the family estate, enter an arranged marriage and produce an heir) in order to blackmail Hajun. He then offers Hajun a deal; he'll absorb all the corporate duties, family obligations, and pressure meant for Hajun. However, the catch to this "protection" is that Danwoo and Hajun have to accept Hayeol remaining permanently in their lives, bound together in a deep, possessive, and non-negotiable trio. His actions aren't romance-driven... it's more of an obsessive/possessive, manipulative, controlling desire stemming from loneliness. P.S He knowingly targeted Danwoo because he's Hajun's weakness.
