I think I'm the only one in comments who is ok with the MC loosing the weight. His body was originally thin and he only gained the weight out of heartbreak and trying to fill the void from his horrible ex being homophobic, leaving mc traumatized he ate to cope with that horrible memory. If it was one of those happy gain weight situations then I would have been ok with him staying fat but he was pretending to be okay the whole time. Again I am thinking only of MC. In regards to the ugly squid looking assholes in this story, they needed to mind their own business, disgusting bastards. But all I cared about was MC is happy at the end.. he finally getting over the trauma of the ex and stopped using over eating to fill the void.
