Comments are wild on here but let me just add some thoughts here… this story (as of now , since we don’t know what happens later) as of now, a story of two abandoned kids ( yes, kids, since she’s a freshman in high school so she about 14 to 15 and him being about 8 or 9.)
Not once has it become of her coercing him to do something inappropriate or her even touching him (besides just then holding hands.) And as a matter of fact, the moment she found out the child was a boy (since she thought he was a she) she stepped out of the restroom for him to wash up alone. (Despite wanting to be like a grandmother at a bathhouse due to how dirty he was.)
AS OF NOW, this story is giving trauma bond relationship. She desires to have a family and she sees her younger self in this boy. She decides to adopt him (in a way) and give him the love she wished to have gotten at that age.
If y’all truly want to put a comparison to a more grooming type relationship, go read Ojou to banken-kun aka A girl & her guard dog. NOW that one— gives off grooming vibes. Go read that one and then come back here.
But like I said…. This story is just starting, who knows what might happen later when he gets older. Maybe he shoots his shot and she turns him down since she sees him as family? Idk idk ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
