TLDR : 8.9/10 | Beautiful Art Style. Beautiful Character Centered Story. Fun Premise & Concept. Would 100% recommend if you like Pretty things, and enjoy medieval high fantasy. Don’t expect much world building, it’s character centered. But the characters are beautiful inside and out.
To start, this Manwha is beautiful. It has possibly one of the most beautiful art styles I’ve ever seen in Manwha. The Artist, Poya, really made this story what it is, without a doubt. if this story had a more common artstyle it’d be pretty average in the genre. I fear this story wouldn’t have been as interesting and entertaining if not for the absolutely gorgeous art style.
As for the story itself, it’s a really nice fantasy story. The world building was nice, albeit a bit simple. I wish it was fleshed out more, and I desperately wish we could see more of the world itself. But this story is strongly centered around the characters, not the world. And the characters themself are beautifully designed I use the word beautifully intentionally. They can be a bit flat at times, especially if they’re not the main characters. The main characters themselves are fairly fleshed out, with deep emotions, traumas, and consistency in their character. I enjoy the characters a lot.
My favorites without a doubt are of course our Queen Ariadne Valentine, and surprisingly her mother in law, Sabina Valentine.
Aria is the epitome of ethereal, stunningly beautiful pink bunny. She’s gorgeous beyond words, from her appearance, to her thoughts, her purpose, and her personality. Kind and caring, yet selfish in her pursuits and desires. Her devotion is incredible and her willingness to do what she believe is right no matter what is inspiring. I love the siren concept, especially as a magical songstress, so iconic and ethereal. The way she used magic, and her powers made her enchanting. I do think she became a bit flatter in the middle of the story, but she regained her depth at some point. I wish she was a bit smarter, as it felt like she was luckier than she was strategic, but her nature and personality are still lovable enough to not really care. She made decision based on her heart, and used what she had to make it reality. I love her.
As for Sabina, I just love her. She’s kind yet ruthless, beautiful yet intimidating, soft yet striking. Just a goddess. I’m so excited to see how her story plays out and I love that they’re showing her story as she deserves. Even when she first appeared, I was enchanted by this motherly figure who seemed to have these monstrous men and the devilish house of valentine wrapped around her finger. She’s a boss baddie and I love her. Her vampiric beauty is like a contrasting mirror to Arias. If Aria is like a spring fairy queen, Sabina is a vampire empress.
The story itself was interesting. Without too many spoilers, it was a fun concept. Playing around with divinity and emotions in that way was fun, and I really enjoyed it. Though I will say, the lack of world building made it feel flat at times. Nonetheless it was fun. Foreshadowing was nice, the ways the characters intertwined throughout the story and played their roles was enjoyable. Again I’m just overall let down by the lack of depth in the world itself, as if the world existed for the characters, instead of the characters existing in a world. ( which I guess is kinda true…)
Regardless. A beautiful story. Beautiful is the word I’d used to describe this Manwha. The article is stunningly gorgeous, the emotions are deep and contemplative, and the premise is fun and was well played out. The only flaw was that I found myself craving to know more and see more of the world around them—but the characters kept me fixated and infatuated. The plot holes all derived from the lack of the world building. Like I wanted to see more of Valentines territory, more of Garcia and the Empire, more of the environment overall. But aside from that, a beautiful story.
