What to do when you feel yourself falling back into harmful thinking and having self harm thoughts?

Honestly, going on a walk has helped me a lot. I know it sounds like a pretty basic answer, but getting out to nature spots or parks and just getting some sun really helps clear my head. Calling a friend or playing games to distract myself helps shift my mood, too. Sometimes I even do a little online shopping to have something to look forward to and break the cycle. (⌒▽⌒)

I bake. Working with dough helps me let out some steam and also I find doing something creative with my hands quite helpful. And I can enjoy the results after I'm done. And and aaaanddd the whole trial and error thing helps with anger management in the long run.
I have a lovely 2 year old sourdough and she's helped me get through a lot.

also what the other person said, working out is helpful too. sometimes I do fake grwms in my mirror and get ready even though I have nothing to do, it gets things off my mind and helps with boredom

My most healthiest way was genuinely finding distractions. manhwa really distracted me through hard times and also I have a kitty cat so like i saw responsibility in taking care of her so everytime a thought came up, i'd go play with her or i'd give her treats (prolly why she's so chubby lol). I've seen people do the same thing but with plants if you aren't in a situation for pets. one i'm kinda ashamed of but worked was imagining if my cat was getting hurt and like making myself believe if she saw me w like my cuts, it'd have the same affect on her. You can always search up helplines if you ever need them for more professional ways of dealing w self harm. Trust you can get through it

To be honest, when I have negative thoughts, I always try to distract myself as much as possible. Physical activity helps me, and I also often try to just blockout my thoughts with noise. Sometimes I have something playing in the background all day so I don't let any thoughts in. Hope things will get better for you soon

I hope you get better soon darling
Reading other people's comments I remembered some other stuff that might help. Something my therapist taught me was to always carry textured stuff, like necklaces and rings, so I can regulate my nerves fidgeting with them.
And also I agree with keeping pets too. My beloved cat turns 12 this year and I got her when I was at my lowest. I also rescued a turtle last year when it was in a reeeaaally bad condition, and just seeing it become big and strong day after day makes me feel like I've accomplished something.
Alsooo doing hand embroidery is very therapeutic for me. It's cheap, you can do it on your own clothes and wear them, and the possibilities are endless.

never listen to music that’s depressing or sad when having those thoughts. I listen to upbeat songs or other stuff if I do want to listen to music and I’m feeling like shit

do NOT believe TikTok or whatever social media app you have late at night (you WILL succumb to the depressing edits and the ‘no one cares for me’ videos which will make you feel worse) (they make you cry in bed and you feel like shit but you just keep scrolling. don’t do that.)

dancing is really fun, especially spontaneously. don’t be too caught up on doing it perfectly or feeling embarrassed (lol I’m guilty). do things you enjoy, and if you can’t find anything you truly enjoy or feel like you enjoy, get a change of scenery and look at pretty things. I like going on my roof but if you’re thinking you might jump off it don’t do that, and go outside for a walk. you can also draw, scribble, take your anger out or sorrow out on a paper then watch it get shredded, burnt, or soak it in water then see it disappear.

dress cute or what makes you feel nice, even if you’re not going anywhere. even dressing out of your pjs could be good!

I believe in you! positive wishes coming towards you :)
