I’m sorry but I think you’re misremembering what happens to Winston’s family. His oldest brother goes to jail (I think he gets at least 20 years) for numerous counts of sa and at least one attempted murder, his sister and her husband lose everything and go to jail for financial crimes that he manipulated them into doing, his other brother is still an addict and in an asylum (I think, I don’t really remember what happened to him), and his mother kills herself after shooting Winston because she lost control over because of his love of yujin and the fact that he tried to kill her during his suicide attempt by setting the mansion on fire.
Oh yeah, now I remember.
But still not enough though.
Especially Winston’s.
He didn’t suffer enough.
The novel has 236(?) chapters, and Winston’s redemption arc starts super late in the novel.
It was around 184(?).
So imagine, Yujin suffered for 180+ chapters, and Winston’s redemption doesn’t even occupy the entirety of the final few chapters. That’s roughly less than 50 chapters. And he didn’t even get physically tortured lol.
Mostly just him feeling extreme guilt and self hatred to the point of committing suicide (Yujin stopped him).
After a few chapters of groveling, he still got everything he wanted in the end. While the family who tortured Yujin didn’t even suffer at all lol.
Unless they are sent on the streets to beg for scraps, humiliated, left with not a single penny, and tortured to the brink of death, then they pretty much escaped punishment.
Iirc, Winston sent his mother to be isolated from everyone at a secondary Mansion, but still provides her money for daily expenses. She was stripped off of her authority and name, but did not face any legal repercussions, physical torture, nor any sort of punishment other than banishment.
It was so unfair… after all the shit they put Yujin through, she still gets to live a comfortable life.
In the novel, her lifestyle is akin to a retired person. Basically, still very comfortable.
So she didn’t get punished, because Winston is a DUMB FUCK
