I’m quite glad the author of Fogland is a women as she’s able to showsuch level respect towards this topic, often times in action heavy / male dominated stories , this type of scenario would be focused on such a … brutalised scene of what Birdie would have went through. We don’t need to SEE what happened to know the effects of the abuse and assault that Birdie had went through, and j honestly prefer not seeing female violence / SA portrayed in that way. I’m very Glad the author showed us the emotional impact instead, and it honestly speaks to the tragedy even more with the vagueness and what we can put together :( her leg taken away, the fingers chopped off… it’s very clear birdie went through imaginable horrors :((((
