yeah its conservative rhetoric (for expecting everyone to be good characters only to be good and everything bad to be irredeemable). Making nuanced characters receives so much vitriol which is fucking weird, because it brings life to characters when they make mistakes. I don't know when it started but i blame voltron
I don’t know where it started either but I blame the pandemic lmao Yeah, because when the “green flag” character makes a mistake, they (and the author) gets so much hate. It’s so much more fun when characters are human and aren’t 1000% perfect all the time in stories, and we get to root for them and see them grow.

A sort of rant but…something I’ve Been Noticing recently, not just in this story but the comments reminded me of it again…
Categorizing characters solely into green flag/red flag can get so annoying (esp in BLs) since people’s literacy suck nowadays and can’t get nuance and conflict and complicated characters. So when they box a character into whatever flag they please, readers get pissy when they don’t act in a certain preconceived way. So they leave very little leeway for characters to make mistakes and grow, which is a very important and necessary part of storytelling. Then they complain to authors…and complain online…which sours the reading/fandom experience. So yeah.
