I dont rmb if the last part about giving Ilay back what he lost is in the novel? But it does makes sense now. Ilay save Tae's life twice. Tae got kidnapped twice. And the second time is truly a big deal. Ilay doesnt just sacrifice money, time, energy but also connection, carrer, his freedom all he built up to that moment in life. And thats because he is in love with Taeui and he cant lost him.
