If you view Mc relationship with his childhood friend as an abusive relationship(bc thats basically what it is) that his parents push him into since he was a kid (bc thats what theyre doing) his wishy washy behavior makes sense. Esp since this is his first time officially leaving.
They say it takes 7 times to try and leave. Kudos to him for taking that step, its gonna be more than messy since he has to cut all ties with the friend esp since theyre so intertwined. He is mourning a relationship he has had since childhood, one that will make significant changed in his life, one that will cost him his family and likely many friendships and connections, thats a hard thing to do. It make sense he wouldnt want to jump into a relationship after all that especially with feelings still there thats messed up to put on the ML.
