I'm glad he was able to become a doctor and even have a kind wife and children. He couldn't have his first loves, and war is hell, but he ended up living a good life and dying with family nearby. That's not bad at all. It's tragic, but at least not all tragic. There were people who really cared about him at every stage of his difficult life.
