Could have been better with a different translation.

Goes to show that good translators and editors are worth their weight in gold. This could have been a much better manga with a better translation. The very literal translation is one of the reasons this story seems so choppy. There are huge differences between Japanese and English language, a translation that smoothly accounts for those can make the reading experience much better. ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
