It's really cool. Actually, I saw a tv show the other day when a guy said to another that he was in love with him because in his past life he was his wife. He even gave him red roses! And the other guy get pissed. Well, you probably don't care.
A tip from another writer. Work on the personality of both characters. You can have your favorite, or one that is a main character, that's already, but the other can't be forgotten. The both have to have problems, insecurities and they own personality.
And are you sure you can put this in a short movie? It could easily be a series or long movie. Don't rush things, it can ruin a good plot.
Do you know your audience? A lot of people are homophobes and you may not get the prize if people who judges you are like this, so think about it. Maybe they don't go around beating up people, but they may be kind of guy who makes jokes or glare when they see a gay couple.

This would be very interesting and good if this was a story or a drama series, but if your making a short film, how are you gonna incorporate all that into a short film?
The plot seems a bit similar to the anime "Uragiri wa boku no namae wo shitteiru".
But still is different and interesting. Hope you can make it into a good and loving romantic story.

I think there's manga with similar story line. I can vaguely remember it though:
The seme was the reincarnation of his wife, who was killed. Seme was a witch and swear that she will meet her husband again - something like that. The current seme is someone rich who is currently being hunted down by his enemy/rival. Then uke is the reincarnation of the husband, who is currently a retired mercenary. Both of them meet again after uke came back to his country and found seme was being hunted down. Uke saved seme with his military skill and was hired to become his bodyguard. Both of their past memories are still retain.

The plot is a little bit cliche, but interesting. And I think the problem you'll have to face is how to execute the story. Like Current > Past > Current, or Past > Current. Also, DO NOT GET IDEAS FROM SUGGESTIONS. If you do that, it will be more of a fanservice. Just write the story in your own way.

That Romeo/Juliet set up is a good one. the sex switch can give you all kinds of opp. for funny touchy moments. One idea he has, from that time object a( ring) that both would recognize. as a plot point it could help to trigger memory in the other party. Good luck to you.

Im going to write a story that I wanted to pass as my entry for this production team who wanted to make a yaoi/BL short film. i really wanted to get the spot as the senior writer...
so heres a brief summary of the plot:
From the past, A Rich Man and a Girl Servant fell in love with each other. Their love is forbidden bcos of social status and the guys parents were really against their rel. So on the night of their elope, the parents plan to hinder their son's elope by hiring someone to kidnap the girl. Unfortunately, the girl was killed and died. The Rich guy now promised that theyll meet again to continue their love.
Fast forward to the modern time :
The rich guy was reincarnated is now a 19yo college student in search for the Girl's reincarnation. Parts of his memories from the past retains. He transferred school where he thought the girl could be. But it turns out, the girl's reincarnation is a guy. (His memory as a girl from the past retains too).
The angsts of the story is that, the rich guy's reincarnation cant accept to be with a guy, but he really loves that girl from the past. But unconciously, when they became friends, he started to feel simething special about the other boy...
