If you're a writer and you write plots like that then you're a shitty writer, you don't just "kill" a character for a shocking experience. Maybe a reason (a really extra strong reason) why they would lose this match will make it even more interesting and would make us readers to continue on reading because they had lose and ready to fight again. I'm also not the mangaka, just sayin.

Is that even called drama, you just let them lose because it's thrilling and it'll sure "crush the readers' hearts". Maybe this is why Furudate sensei let them fight against Inarizaki because they need a strong reason to really deserve to go on Nationals.
