well it really depends on the couple if they want to switch. i have 2 gay friends and i always ask them if they want to 'put it in' or 'getting put on', and they both want to be the bottom because they like the feeling, and being a top is a hassle for them (with that thrusting or wtv.) oh shit im getting real here lmao.
Yeah. I know. Switching isn't for everyone. And most people have personal preferences. But in this case they're both "straight men turned gay" and these sort of mangas are tricky in that respect, because they (sometimes) have one character being goaded into bottoming when they don't want to, and that irks me a little.
Since the premise of two men suddenly turning gay already doesn't seem realistic (to me) I'd personally hope to see the ideal situation where the characters switch and are happy. But again, that's simply me projecting my own preferences onto the characters. I respect the mangaka's decision to go down this route, even if I don't agree with it on a personal level.
It would be a fresh and realistic take. But I'm of the opinion that a good chunk of people who read yaoi don't want realism. They are, to some degree, fetishising gay couples. Which is why regardless of how good a story is, how good the character and plot development is, if there isn't a sex scene... They start complaining about it.
And as always the comments section are full of people (much like myself) complaining about who tops and who bottoms
There was this one yaoi though that came out recently which was based on a true story of a gay man and a straight man who started dating, and they abstained for a really long time because the straight man wasn't okay with being physical. I forgot the name of the manga. But anyway, I liked it. It was realistic for the most part. But a lot of people still complained calling it boring.

This one? :p
I really liked it too for the sincerity of the relationship and when I saw the comments of other people I was like "Godammit you don't understand anything!" ):
When will yaoi mangas embrace the concept of switching?
It could save a lot of grief
And it bothers me a little when one person caves.
But anyway, this was still an enjoyable read
