I think the problem is that Maya good points (or his attractiveness) is emphasized in every volume even more, but it doesn't happen with Nemu's qualities. Nemu is cute, serious, clever, hard working, forgiving and is madly in love with Maya, his first and only. But just because Maya's insanely hot and sweet we tend to forget that he's insensitive and a really selfish kind of guy too.
The appearance of a rival who is in love with Nemu could make Maya realize that he's taking for granted their relationship way too much
