I think hes testing him.

of course he would be devastated but the studio scene ( when it went ' i see now' ) it clicked in my head that hes looking for closure. he wants to know why, Was he just a fling and the he really should hate the man he obsessed over for years or otherwise, hes invested to much time and was given way to many mix signals that the name had set him off because he knows his ex's mental like no other. But i could be wrong this is just what im expecting
