that’s the thing - they ARE being honest with their feelings. part of the allure for the dark-haired older man is for the other one to be almost in his grasp but ultimately unreachable. this catch-and-let-go dynamic is part of their shared romance/relationship that weirdly enough both find immense pleasure in.
I just wanted the two old guys from the first story to just stop that chasing stuff and just be honest with themselves and be together at last cuz they ain’t got that much time left if they’re in their 50’s
