Shounen ai is one thing(since one can just like it for the romance and story), but yaoi focuses heavily on pornographic content. Would a straight guy be into gay porn? I don't know, that's why I wrote, that I hope they explain how he got into it.

Besides, the guy in the manga doesn't like reversed couples. It made it seem like he's into heteronormative BL couples.

I've read a few yuri mangas myself, because I found the relationship dynamic interesting. I also know some straight guys, who read shonen ai like No. 6 because they liked the story.That's why I was wondering if they meant shonen ai, because they sometimes just use the term yaoi for everything. I don't remember this manga apart from the premise and when I read it, when there were not more than 2 chapters.(what i wrote about this manga in the topic is not why I stopped reading it) I was wondering what kind of Yaoi he read- the ones with more story or the fun trashy ones, which dominate- but you could say the same for every genre ^^ And I truly don't know any straight guy who read yaoi, so I was mainly interested how he got into it. It was a "I'm curious" and not "How could a straight guy ever be interested in this". I maybe didn't voice myself clear enough.

I can read yuri mangas, the ones with actual sex, but usually it'd have some plot. I'm also fine with pwp but I don't avidly read them. I'm saying this because I don't get off on sex in general, if that helps clarify things.

Maybe there are men like that as well. The ones I know are also straight who go like "hMMM WHATS SO GOOD ABOUT MEN ON MEN ACTION :( hmmm i dont get it". I do know that there are fudanshis out there. We can't say that it's impossible for a straight man to get into yaoi. There are a lot of people in this world, after all. :v

You can also put it to the extreme. Just because you like horror stuff doesn't mean you want to participate in it, right? I mean you're right, it's interesting how someone got into Yaoi, especially since there are a lot more people who dislike GuyXGuy than GirlXGirl, but that also doesn't imply that there needs to be something special behind it. Also, you can also enjoy Yaoi if you just don't mind explicit sex scenes. I mean, most of them have an interesting plot after all.

Oh, and if you want, you can also ask a question on mangago. I'm sure there are a few Fudanshis on this site, so maybe they can give you a few ideas of how they got into it.

And btw, the contra too Shounen-Ai would be Shoujo-Ai. Yuri would be the contra to Yaoi - GirlXGirl with explicit sex scenes.
