Why do some BL readers get oh-so-triggered with some "rape scenes" in a certain manga/manhwa? Just asking *peace signs* :<

When it's like brutal I get triggered bc they're bleeding and crying then I'm like wtf am I reading ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

I don't really know if I'd consider it being triggered, but some people have experienced rape themselves, and maybe reading about it explicitly happening can upset them. Not to sound like a Tumblrite, but personally I don't really like reading rape scenes, mostly because I feel more scared for them instead of thinking it's hot. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Rape isn't considered something okay and people get easily offended and triggered when it's mentioned or when someone jokes about it. So when it's portrayed in art obviously they'll get annoyed and stirred up? Like how dare they make a rape scene and make it look completely fine. Personally I don't give a shit it's art after all it's just a story. I hate rape but I don't relate it to manga and such.

maybe some cant differentiate between fiction and reality?
I hate it when people are bitching about it as if 'rape' is only a part in yaoi mangas.
kinda funny beeing annyoid aobut rape scenes but I never saw sombody complaining
aobut cruel needless killer szenes- so rape is bad but killing somebody is good? lol
double moral (btw. sry for my bad eng.)

actually rape is fine... it's, ahem, kinky(in FICTION), brings out the angst when trauma time comes... it's a story element?

but falling in love with your rapist isn't. that's the only beef we have with it. it's plain unrealistic, cheap and lazy writing. usually they depict it as 'i love you so much that i rape you', when in reality rape is mostly about having power over your victim.

SO if the uke were to fall in love with the seme, the author best depict that the uke is 'mentally broken' aka stockholm syndrome or actually ACKNOWLEDGES it's abnormal etc etc. I think there's a manga where a girl was kidnapped, got stockholm syndrome, but was released, only to and find out that her family already moved on. she then gladly went back to her kidnappers. I'd praise that, tbh.

too bad all we get is seme raping uke until uke loves him with pure, innocent(lol) feelings, and then seme gets redemption arc. lmfao.

Personally it depends on how the element "rape" was used in the manga, how the victim will react, how the rapist react after the deed and and how readers react about it.

E.g. I hate you so: to me, it's one of the least manhwa I was frustrated on, even when it contains continuous rape. The reason for that is bc of how the uke reacted when he was raped by the seme. He wasn't thinking about how it's "okay" when he was raped by the seme just bc he was already in love with him. He still got mad and told off the seme and never said that "it's okay for you to do anything to me bc i love you" or stupid shit like that. And the seme was reallyyyy regretful about his past actions. He apologized, even had a moment where he didnt want to touch the uke bc he remembered how much of an asshole he was.

For hidoku shinaide, I still feel iffy about Maya. It's not just bc of the rape, it's about what a boyfriend he is to Nemu. He's sweet, but sometimes I want to punch him in the face. He almost broke up with Nemu for being with a guy for a night, and now (recent ch) he lied about some shit and even got mad when Nemu suspects him. Tho I was glad when he brought up about him raping Nemu around vol 6, but with how he currently is, I'm still not comfortable with him.

And then there's some typical yaoi plots where the rapist (mostly seme) rapes the uke and then doesn't fucking apokogize for what he did just bc the seme truly loves the uke like wtf assoles don't dismiss the uke's feelings to satisfy yours. "Love" is not a meal ticket for hurting others. Let's not make "love" as an excuse to hurt each other.

And also where the uke would say "i don't care if you force me bc i love u so much so it's okay" like bitch pls love youself more than the asshole who forces you to satisfy his urges without thinking about your welfare.

I also hate moments where the rapist and the victim gets together happily ever after and then never mentions about rape as if it never happened like wtf

Also, I get triggered when the rapist is an asshole, disregard the victim's feelings or smth and then does (expected/normal things to do when u like a person) shit like cook for the uke or smth, lots of people then say "OMG FLUFF!!!!" or "I LOVE THE SEME #GOALS" like ok.

Lastly, I get seriously salty where the rapist where asshole and gets a truly happy ending with a dumbass victim and when someone points out "rape!!" or "he doesn't deserve the victim" etc etc and someone retorts saying "y cant u differentiate between fiction and reality" like fucker we can but the victim fucking deserves better.

(Y'all i'm not saying that the ukes are the only ones that gets raped/the semes are always the rapist but that's usually how it goes sigh)

You know a lot of people have been personally affected by rape right? Sexual assault is not uncommon in real life therefore it is not unreasonable for it to be trigger.

I steer away from the comments section nowadays! We're not preschoolers here! We have the same ability to judge as any other! Just because u enjoy reading something doesn't mean u approve it! It's just annoying to have people cried RAPERAPERAPE every time! YET with everything said & done... here they're enjoying every updates! Double standard hypocrites

I don't really like it if the rape's too realistic (bleeding and stuff cuz blood really turns me off) but overall, I personally like the rape trope in fictional work, it's kinky. Preferences depends on a person and for the people who's downgrading the fictional rape community and calling our preference sick, it's not like the fictional rape community supports rape in real life. We just don't mix fiction and real life.

    takame May 25, 2018 5:11 pm

incapability of differentiating reality and fiction. failing to read between the lines that separates simple kink from actual issue.
